Double the Love

Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to have kids someday when I was older. Well, little did I know it would come sooner than I expected.  On June 10, 2011 I found out I was pregnant. In no way was I ready to take on the job of being a mom as I had just broke off my engagement at the end of April and I was stressed about not having a place to live until July 1.  Breaking off my engagement was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and if I had not done that I would not be where I am today. A mommy of twins!

My sister was with me the day I found out I was pregnant and has been my side every step of the way!!  Once I found out for sure that it wasn't stress I told my immediate family. And they were all very shocked but supportive at the same time. Which made me feel a little more at ease about everything.  Then came another hard part....keeping it a secret until I heard the heartbeat for the first time. Yes, I said heart beat.  We did know that there were two in there until my first sonogram.  On July 7, 2011 we heard Baby A's heartbeat for the first time and it was 170.  When I told my mom she said that I was going to be having a girl. And I told her I didn't want a girl. After that appointment we set up an appointment for my first sonogram.  Normally they don't do sonograms at 18 wks, but my OBGYN wanted me to.

That being said leads us to August 31, 2011.  Mom came up to Hays to go to the first sono with my sister and I. And let me tell you we all got a shock of a lifetime.  There I am laying on the table all prepped and ready to go to see my baby for the first time and the tech asks me if I want to know the sex of the baby. I told her that I didn't unless she was 100% sure I just wanted to know that there was only ONE in there, because I could tell it looked like two. Just from pictures I've seen in articles I've read.  She proceeded to tell us that she was only a student and was going to get another person to look but she was pretty sure there were TWO in there!! Mom and Diana laughed and I of course cried. Because here I was a single mom not ready to be a mom to just one but now to two little boys!! We finished up the sonogram and headed up to my OB appt.  When we got up there the nurse and my ob asked what I was having and I told them twin boys. And they asked if there were twins on either side and come to find out later.....that their is twins on my side and their dad's side of the family! And he was in line for twins!  After both my appointments that day I called my dad and brother to tell them the news. My brother just laughed. And when I talked to my dad I asked him if he wanted to know what I was having and he said "you're having a baby" and I said "no, I'm having two babies" and he argued "No, you're not!" and I told him once again "No dad, I'm having twin boys!!!" And then he started laughing as well.  I guess this is pay back for how much of a handful I was when I was younger :)

They truly are our gifts from heaven!!

Once all the immediate family knew I was able to finally tell all my friends and other family the great news!! And what a relief that was! Since then I have had such a huge support system and I can't thank everyone enough for everything!! Especially after my sister and brother in law got married and my sister moved away.

Without these two I don't know what I would've done!!!

After my lease was up in December I moved in with one of my best friends that I've known practically my whole life and her fiancee until I had the boys.  Tami went to the rest of my appointments with me once my sister moved.  Since she is a nursing student and was going to be doing her OB/Peds part of the nursing program when I was due we got my OBGYN's approval and her advisers approval to be in the delivery room when I had the boys.  Well, since it was C-section we had it all planned for January 25,2012 a week early from my due date of February 1, 2012. And I didn't think I could make it that long so once I started going every week to see my OBGYN I kept asking can I have them next week or tomorrow. Because I was miserable!!

Then came that miserable evening/early morning......While I was staying at Cole and Tami's I was just sleeping on their comfy couch.  Well, the night before I had the boys I couldn't get comfortable to safe my life. I tried different spots on the couch and I tried walking to make myself tired/and to relieve the pain.  Finally about 4 am I was able to get a couple hours of sleep sitting up on the couch with my feet propped up on their coffee table. Then about 7:30 Cole (Tami's fiancee) got up to get ready for work. And I asked him if Tami was up (as this was going to be her first day of class for the spring semester). He said no but he would wake her up.  She popped up out of bed and was in the living room right away. By this time I was in tears because of the pain. We sat there for a while because we didn't know what to do. Then decided we should probably go to the hospital just to be safe.  We called my mom and sister on the way there. And mom headed out as soon as she got off the phone and went and got her suitcase from the house. My sister waited about an hour to find out for sure if I was going to be having the boys that day or not before she decided to just come.  Once we got to the hospital they wheeled me to the labor and delivery area and got me all hooked up to monitor me.  They check to see if I was dilated and I was dilated about 1 cm but 100% effaced!  So they decided to monitor me for an hour then check again.  Same results the second time, but they did inform me that my contractions were 2-3 minutes apart. So they monitored me another hour. Mom arrived at the hospital at 10 and my sister at 11. Right after my sister got their my OBGYN came in and told us that we would be having the c-section that day shortly after Noon. So we called my dad to let him know so that he could change his route for work and be there by evening to see his new grandsons.

After filling out all the paperwork and getting me officially admitted to the hospital it was about 1:00 p.m. and they walked me down to the O.R. to give me my spinal tap.  Thank the lord that Tami was able to be in there with me for that because I hate needles but she talked me through the whole thing to keep me relaxed. The then finished getting me ready and brought my sister into the room to hold my hand during the procedure.  Then at 1:06 p.m. and 1:07 p.m. I heard the cries of two wonderful little boys!! Sebastian Allen and Jayden Dale Nelson.

Granny and Grandpa's House

Ever since I can remember my family and I would call my Granny and Grandpa and see if they were having lunch on Sundays. About the only time they wouldn't have it is if the weather had been bad and the roads were muddy or if one of them was sick.  I always have and always will cherish those days.  That was a time when all my cousins and aunts and uncles on my mom's side would all get together and eat our Granny's beef and noodles or whatever was on the menu that particular week.

We always had a blast out there! Once we got done eating lunch some of us would lay down and take a nap, visit in the living room, get out the stencils, papers, and drawing utensils and draw. Or we would go to the back room and get out some of the kitchen stuff and cabbage patch dolls and pretend we were making all kinds of stuff. One of the things I remember making all the time was "pink" or "purple" tea!  Another one of our favorite things to do was play board games!  I think the most popular game we played though was the animal cracker game!! Oh so many memories were made there as we were growing up.

And now I get to experience it all over again with my boys. With basically everyone being married, having their own families, and living in all parts of the state we don't get to see everyone as often. However, my Aunt Judy, my mom, and I still make time to call up my grandparents each Wednesday night and see if they are having supper. Sure its not as elaborate as it use to be. Its usually just leftovers heated up with some salad. But we don't care. We are still making memories and spending quality time with our loved ones. And my grandparents are getting to watch two of their great grandsons grow each week!! Here are some pictures from last night when we went out there!!

Here is a picture of Granny's famous beef and noodles....we always loved putting cheese on them!!

Without my family I don't know what I would do! I'm definitely cherishing every moment I have with them!
